Rock bottom aims to bring attention to sites that hold significant yet understated meaning toward Portland’s identity. Colored stones collected from construction sites are repurposed here as monuments and markers to spotlight areas of the city that speak to forgotten histories of uprootedness and their related present-day scenarios. Development implies the creation of wealth, but it also implies a material relation of destruction and division. Physical and emotional boundaries prevent the transference of the human narrative. This project is a collaboration with Jabari Jordan-Walker.
