The Portland Renters Assembly is a gathering of people united by the burden of rent. Several strings of events were organized over the course of 2015 with each gathering focusing on a new theme that pertains to the housing justice movement in Portland. Gatherings served to educate and agitate attendees while also giving each person a chance to share their experience as renters or with rent-related issues. The Renters’ Assembly also serves as a hub for allied groups and causes, allowing upset renters and others to join the movement by supporting allied campaigns including those by Right to Dream Too, The Right to the City, Black Lives Matter, Portland Solidarity Network, 15 Now, and the Community Alliance of Tenants. Several ongoing actions developed out of the assemblies including the Portland Tenants’ Union and a number of housing justice actions in the Portland area.
